FAQ

About BEWM Coffee

Who is BEWM?

BEWM was an 18-year-old street artist whose work covered walls across Austin with raw, vibrant energy. He passed away in 2023, but what made him special wasn't just his art,  it was his love for the art community and his tireless support of other artists. BEWM Coffee was created by his friends, mentors, and the Austin street art community to honor his memory by supporting living artists.

How did BEWM Coffee start?

After BEWM's death, the Austin street art community came together to figure out how to honor him properly. Memorial murals went up across the city, including a special piece at Cosmic Saltillo. The community held BEWM for the People events on his birthday in 2024 and 2025, sponsored by Something Good Initiative. But people kept asking: What can we build that lasts? What honors him while actually supporting living artists?

BEWM Coffee is the answer, a sustainable business that pays artists fairly and supports coffee farmers through ethical sourcing.

What makes BEWM Coffee different?

Three things:

  1. Artists get paid real money: Every artist we partner with receives a guaranteed payment for their work plus the chance to earn more as the drop performs — never “exposure,” never “portfolio building.” Just real compensation and real respect.
  2. Farmers get paid fairly: We pay well above fair-trade rates and provide pre-harvest funding that supports long-term sustainability for growers.
  3. Coffee is actually fresh: Every bag is roasted to order and shipped within days so subscribers never get the stale, 90-day-old warehouse coffee most subscription brands deliver.

Products & Pricing

What's the difference between Canvas Series and Go To BEWM?

Canvas Series (starts at $30.99/month):

  • Limited-edition artist-designed coffee bag (new artist every month)
  • 12oz fresh-roasted premium coffee
  • Collectible 5x8 art print
  • Sticker pack or extras
  • Early access to new collaborations

BEWM Go-To (starts at $27.99/month):

  • 12oz fresh-roasted house coffee
  • Consistent, reliable blend
  • Same ethical sourcing and freshness
  • No art collectibles (just great coffee)

The Canvas Series is for collectible art drops and coffee lovers. BEWM Go-To Blend delivers exceptional, fresh coffee while supporting artists and our mission.

How much coffee is in each bag?

Each bag contains 12oz (340g) of coffee, enough for about 24-28 cups depending on how you brew.

For reference:

  • Light drinkers (1 cup/day): 1 bag = ~3-4 weeks
  • Moderate drinkers (2 cups/day): 1 bag = ~2 weeks
  • Heavy drinkers (3+ cups/day): Consider the 2-bag option
Can I get 2 bags per month?

Yes! Both Canvas Series and BEWM Blend offer 2-bag options:

  • Canvas Series: 1 bag ($34.99/mo) or 2 bags ($64.99/mo) — save $5/month
  • BEWM Blend: 1 bag ($26.99/mo) or 2 bags ($49.98/mo) — save $5/month

The 2-bag option is perfect for couples, households, or heavy coffee drinkers (3+ cups per day).

Do you offer whole bean or ground?

Both! You can choose whole bean or ground when you order. We offer one standard grind:Drip/pour-over (medium)We recommend whole bean if you have a grinder — coffee tastes best when ground fresh right before brewing. But we're happy to grind it for you.

Why does BEWM Coffee cost more than grocery store coffee?

Because grocery store coffee was roasted 60-90 days ago and has been sitting in warehouses losing flavor. Our coffee is roasted to order and shipped within 2-3 days of roasting. You can smell the difference the moment you open the bag.

Also, we pay artists up to $2,000 per collaboration and farmers above fair-trade rates. That matters. Premium pricing reflects the quality of the coffee and the value of the people who create it.

Can I try it before subscribing?

Yes! You can buy:

  • BEWM Blend one-time: $31.99 for 1 bag or $59.99 for 2 bags
  • Canvas Series past drops: Occasionally available while supplies last ($36.99)

If you love it, subscribe and save money on every bag.

Coffee Quality & Sourcing

Where does your coffee come from?

Our roasting partner works directly with smallholder farmers in Ethiopia, Colombia, Guatemala, and other regions. They pay above fair-trade rates and provide pre-harvest funding so farmers don't need to turn to predatory lenders.

Every bag is traceable to the farm. We know where our coffee comes from and who grew it.

What does "roasted to order" actually mean?

It means we don't roast coffee until you order it. Most grocery store coffee sits in warehouses for 60-90 days after roasting, losing flavor every day. We roast your coffee within days of shipping it to you.

Coffee tastes best within 2-4 weeks of roasting. We make sure you get it at peak freshness.

How should I store my coffee?

Store it in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. Not in the fridge or freezer.

Use within 3-4 weeks of opening for peak freshness. If you're not going through it fast enough, consider switching to the 1-bag option.

What does BEWM Blend taste like?

Tasting Notes: Chocolate, caramel, nutty, smooth body, balanced acidity

Roast Level: Medium roast approachable for everyone, complex enough for coffee enthusiasts

Best For: Drip, pour-over, French press, espresso

It's designed to be your everyday, count-on-it, never-gets-old morning ritual.

Do you offer decaf?

Not yet, but we're working on adding a decaf option in 2026. Join our email list to be notified when it launches.

Is your coffee organic?

Our partner roaster prioritizes high-quality, ethically sourced beans. While not all our coffees carry organic certification, we work exclusively with farmers who use sustainable practices and are paid above fair-trade rates with pre-harvest funding.

Quality, ethics, and farmer welfare are our priorities.

Artists & Community

How do you choose which artists to collaborate with?

We're looking for emerging artists with raw creativity and authentic voices. Artists who are hustling, creating, and haven't had significant commercial breaks yet.

The first collaborations feature New York and Austin-based street artists; people who knew BEWM, painted alongside him, and understand what his work meant to the community. We're expanding to artists nationwide as we grow.

Can I apply to be a Canvas Series artist?

Yes!. If you’re making art with soul, we want to see it. Shoot your portfolio and a short intro to will@bewmcoffee.com.

  • We vibe with:
    • Authentic voices
    • Artists that like to get up
    • Pieces that live loud on packaging
    • Artists who live and breathe street culture and want their work in people’s hands, not on a hard drive
What is in it for the artists?

We believe artists should be paid fairly for their work not with promises of “exposure,” but with real compensation and real respect. Every artist we collaborate with receives a guaranteed payment for their artwork and the opportunity to earn more as the drop performs. They also keep full rights to their art and get introduced to our entire community of subscribers who genuinely value creative voices.

Our goal is simple: make sure artists feel supported, compensated, and celebrated in a way that honors the culture we come from.

What is Something Good Initiative?

Something Good Initiative is an artist-run 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to supporting artists and uplifting communities through public art. They sponsored the BEWM for the People events in 2024 and 2025.

BEWM Coffee has partnered with Something Good Initiative, which compensates each artist directly through donations and formal contracts funded by BEWM Coffee. This structure provides complete transparency and ensures artists are supported with integrity.

What are BEWM for the People events?

BEWM for the People is our annual gathering on BEWM’s birthday (August 31) where the community comes together to celebrate his life and the impact he left behind. The first event was in 2024, and the second in 2025 drew our biggest crowd yet.

People tell stories, make art, share food, and hold space for each other. It’s raw, real, beautiful, and healing. A reminder of why this movement exists in the first place. These events are supported by Something Good Initiative.

We’re also always looking to be part of events that align with our mission and our belief that art fuels healing. If you’re hosting something creative, community-driven, or you’re building a space where people who feel alone can show up and be surrounded by good, friendly humans, we want to hear about it and/or be a part of it.

Do you donate coffee to nonprofits?

Yes. Long before BEWM Coffee existed as a brand, we had been donating thousands of pounds of coffee to Austin nonprofits serving people experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, and crisis.

Every month, several hundred pounds go to:

  • Community First! Village / Mobile Loaves & Fishes
  • Angel House Soup Kitchen
  • Sunrise Homeless Navigation Center
  • Central Texas Food Bank
  • Other frontline organizations

As BEWM Coffee grows, so will this work. It's part of who we are.

Mission & Impact

Is BEWM Coffee a nonprofit?

No, BEWM Coffee is a for-profit business. But we've partnered with Something Good Initiative, an artist-run 501(c)(3), which compensates artists directly through our funding.

We believe sustainable businesses can pay people fairly while being profitable. We're proving that model works.

How do I know artists are really getting paid?

Transparency matters to us. Something Good Initiative compensates each artist directly through donations and formal contracts funded by BEWM Coffee. This structure ensures accountability and demonstrates our commitment to supporting artists with integrity.

We're happy to share more details about how this works — just ask.

What does "above fair-trade rates" actually mean?

Fair-trade certification sets minimum prices for coffee. Our roasting partner pays farmers significantly more than those minimums.

They also provide pre-harvest funding, so farmers don't need to turn to high-interest lenders to finance their harvest. This protects farmers from predatory debt cycles and allows them to harvest their crops with dignity.

Can I visit your roastery or see where the coffee comes from?

We partner with a local roaster for production. If you're interested in learning more about our roasting partner or the farms where our coffee comes from, email us at hello@bewmcoffee.com and we'll share more information.
