BRIKS LOVES YOU
HOUSTON, TX
Every artist has an origin story, and BRIKS started with a joke.
In kindergarten, while the other kids drew their families, BRIKS drew his dad with a giant rack of antlers growing out of his head. When his teacher asked why, he explained that his mom always called his dad "dear." The drawing made its way around the school, earning laughs from teachers and kids he had never even met.

That moment stuck with him. Not because of the drawing itself, but because he discovered that something from his imagination could make other people feel something. He never stopped drawing after that.
Growing up in La Porte, Texas, BRIKS was inspired by local muralists whose work rewarded people who slowed down and looked closer. Hidden jokes, unexpected details, and little surprises tucked into everyday places taught him that art could be more than decoration. It could be a dialogue.
Later, graffiti gave him a different kind of education. It offered freedom, expression, and an outlet during a time when he carried more questions than answers. Over the years, that energy evolved into something bigger: creating work that invites people in, sparks conversations, and builds community.

The name BRIKS came from a dog named Brick, a beloved companion from the early 2000s. What began as a nickname eventually grew into something more meaningful. Over time, BRIKS came to represent an idea: a single brick can be destructive, but many bricks together can build a home, a neighborhood, or a community.
That idea sits at the center of everything he creates today.
Whether through murals, community projects, the Blue Dozen, Beat Sessions, or the countless creative gatherings he's helped bring together, his work is rooted in connection. His goal isn't to add more noise to the world. It's to create spaces where people can laugh, connect, and leave feeling a little lighter than when they arrived.
One of the clearest expressions of that philosophy can be found inside Austin's Spokesman Coffee. What began as a request to paint a single wall turned into a four-and-a-half-month labor of love that eventually covered nearly every surface in the building. Filled with hidden details, characters, jokes, and discoveries, the space remains one of his most personal works.
As a colorblind artist, BRIKS has developed a creative process built on experimentation, trust, and curiosity. Rather than seeing limitations, he sees opportunities to approach color differently and encourages others to embrace their own unique perspectives. His work often invites people not just to observe, but to participate, explore, and find their own meaning within it.
Today, BRIKS is more than a name. It's a philosophy. A single brick can be destructive. A thousand bricks can build a home, a neighborhood, or a community. That's the thread running through his work. Not division or noise, but connection. Because after years of painting walls and meeting people from every background imaginable, he's come to believe something simple:
"Paint is universal."

It crosses neighborhoods, cultures, languages, and generations. It gives strangers something to talk about and communities something to gather around. Through murals, events, collaborations, and shared creative spaces, BRIKS continues to build those connections the same way he's always approached his work: One brick at a time.
As Drop 006 in the BEWM Canvas Series, we're excited to welcome BRIKS Loves You.
His world is filled with oddball creatures, smiling skulls, wild colors, and characters that somehow feel both familiar and completely unexpected. Every piece starts with a simple line and grows into something playful, strange, and full of life.
This isn't just a bag of coffee, it's a little piece of the BRIKS universe. A reminder to stay curious, embrace the weird, and have a little more fun along the way.
